Overview

Free-standing charging that
goes where the building cannot

A pedestal EV charger — also called a post-mounted or pillar charger — takes the charging unit off the wall and stands it on its own foundation. That single change unlocks surface car parks, landscaped forecourts, marina pitches, park-and-ride rows and retrofits where no suitable wall, no cable route and no landlord permission exist. DongYu builds pedestal units from the same certified platforms as our wall-mounted range, so specification, spares and firmware stay consistent across a mixed deployment.

Product Recommendation

Recommended Pedestal EV Chargers from DongYu

When there is no wall to mount on, a DongYu pedestal EV charger puts the same proven charging module on a free-standing post. This category covers 7 kW and 11 kW AC and 20 kW to 30 kW DC, with Type 1, Type 2 and GB/T AC connectors or GB/T, CCS1, CCS2 and CHAdeMO on DC — and the interface at a height drivers can actually reach.

Charging levels

Which charging level does your pedestal need?

In our pedestal range the choice comes down to two answers: Level 2 AC at 7–11 kW for everything that parks for hours, or Level 3 DC at 20–30 kW where the bay has to turn over quickly. Here is what each level means in concrete terms.

Level 2 · 7 – 11 kW

Pedestal Mounted Level 2 EV Charger

The core pedestal application. Our AC pedestal runs at 7.4 kW single-phase or 11 kW three-phase from a dedicated supply and fills a car overnight — around 40 km of range per hour at 7 kW. IP55 enclosure, RFID access, OCPP 1.6J and a 5 m copper cable suit shared bays, staff car parks and hotel parking.

Level 3 · 20 – 30 kW

Pedestal Mounted Level 3 EV Charger

DC fast charging with the rectifier inside the station. Our pedestal DC column delivers DC 200–1000 V at up to 80 A, which is enough to make a post-mounted unit viable on a taxi rank, a retail island or a depot exit. Above 30 kW the enclosures grow into columns and cabinets — see our floor mounted range.

How to Specify

Four questions that settle the specification

Answering these questions helps determine the right charger specification for your site and avoids unnecessary capacity or configuration costs.

01

Check what the ground already has

Available electrical capacity, distance from the distribution board, foundation options and whether the surface is asphalt, concrete or paving.

02

Match dwell time to power

Two hours or more in a bay points to 7–11 kW AC. Twenty to forty minutes points to the 20–30 kW DC column — and above that, to our floor mounted range.

03

Plan cable routing and access

Post position relative to the bay, wheel-stop clearance, cable holster height, pedestrian routes and technician access for servicing.

04

Decide the management layer

Plug-and-charge is enough for a private driveway. Shared bays, fleets and public networks need RFID, tariffs and OCPP back-office control.

Application

Where pedestal EV chargers earn their place

A pedestal is the answer whenever the parking bay and the power source are separated by open ground.
These are the applications we configure most often — each one changes the power rating, the enclosure rating and the payment layer.

Open car parks & surface lots

No walls, long cable runs, mixed dwell times. A 7–11 kW AC post per bay keeps civil cost down, with RFID to control access to staff or permit holders.

Hotel & resort forecourts

Guests judge the arrival. A branded pedestal at the entrance does double duty — overnight AC charging plus a signage or advertising face that matches the property.

Retail & shopping centre bays

Shoppers stay 45–90 minutes. A 7–11 kW AC post covers most of them at low cost, while a 20–30 kW DC column handles the drivers who will not wait.

Fleet depots & staff car parks

Known vehicle mix, predictable return times, and a supply that must not be upgraded. Vans and cars fill overnight on 7–11 kW AC posts without touching the site's main fuse headroom.

Public & on-street charging

Kerbside and community sites need a compact footprint, vandal-resistant hardware and OCPP 1.6J so the unit can join whichever back office the operator already runs.

Apartment & community parking

Unallocated bays with no wall to mount on. RFID links each card to a driver or cost centre, so individual billing and landlord reporting work without a concierge.
FAQs

Pedestal EV charger questions, answered

What is a pedestal EV charger?

A pedestal EV charger — also sold as a post-mounted, pillar or free-standing charger — is a charging unit mounted on its own vertical post or stand instead of a wall. The charging module is effectively the same hardware as a wall box, re-housed so that the interface, connector and cable holster sit at a comfortable height. DongYu’s pedestal category covers two models: a 7 kW / 11 kW AC unit and a 20 kW / 30 kW DC column.

Choose a pedestal whenever there is no suitable wall, or when the wall is too far from the bay. Typical triggers: open surface car parks, park-and-ride rows, marina and waterfront pitches, landscaped forecourts, retail islands and retrofit sites where you cannot drill into or cable through an existing structure. A pedestal also helps when you want the charger to be visible and reachable rather than tucked along a kerb, or when the post face needs to carry signage, wayfinding or paid advertising. Our 7 kW / 11 kW AC unit is the same product as the wall-mounted version, so you can mix formats on one site.

The AC pedestal is rated 7.4 kW maximum on single-phase and 11 kW maximum on three-phase, with a maximum current of 32 A and 16 A respectively, and ships with a Type 2, Type 1 or GB/T plug on a 5 m copper cable. The DC pedestal is available in 20 kW and 30 kW versions, delivering DC 200–1000 V at 0–80 A, with GB/T, CCS1, CCS2 and CHAdeMO connector options. If your project needs more than 30 kW DC per unit, the 40–480 kW stations sit in our floor mounted range.

The AC unit ships with a 5 m TPU or TPE copper cable fitted with the Type 2, Type 1 or GB/T plug for your market. It is ordered as a wall box, and the pole-mounted or floor-stand configuration is an optional variant — tell us which you need and the post is included in the quotation. The DC column is supplied as a floor-mounted unit with a 5 m pure copper cable, in either the 410 × 223 × 695 mm enclosure or the 410 × 223 × 1551 mm column, with bottom cable entry.

Both pedestal models ship with OCPP 1.6J pre-configured, the open protocol used by most charging management platforms. There is no vendor lock-in: connect to an existing back office, switch providers later, or run one platform across several suppliers. The AC unit connects over Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or 4G, and the DC column over Ethernet or 4G, with live status, charging power, energy delivered, session history and fault codes all available remotely.

The AC pedestal uses an IP55 controller enclosure with UL94-V0 flame-retardant material, which covers outdoor use in rain and dust. The DC column is rated IP54 and is intended for outdoor installation under shelter, with forced-air cooling. Both are specified for −20 °C to +50 °C, and the DC unit additionally for altitudes up to 2000 m, with a quoted MTBF of 17520 hours and Level 2.0 metering accuracy at ≥ 95 % efficiency. If your site sits outside that envelope, tell us at quotation stage and we will advise on derating or a different enclosure.

Manufacturing is IATF 16949 certified, and products carry CE, CB, RoHS and TUV Mark with design compliance to IEC 61851-1:2017 and IEC 62196-2:2016. Enclosures use IP54 or IP55 ratings with UL94-V0 materials, and protection covers overload, ground, over-voltage and under-voltage, over-temperature and leakage — with CCID20 for North America or AC 30 mA plus DC 6 mA residual current protection for EU and GB/T markets. We also provide certification alignment support for market-specific approvals, and certificates are available on request during quotation.

Yes — send your destination market, expected vehicle list, number of bays, available electrical supply, dwell times and a site photo or layout if you have one. Our engineers will come back with a recommended charging level, connector, installation format and management feature set, plus a full quotation covering chargers, posts, cables, accessories and packaging, and OEM or ODM options where relevant.
