Why DongYu

why choose DongYu as your level 1 EV charging partner

Flexible Product Portfolio

One electrical platform covers portable cordsets and fixed 120 V units, all built on the SAE J1772 vehicle connector and a NEMA 5-15 or 5-20 household plug.

Long-Term Partnership

A 12-month full-unit warranty, stocked spare parts, and a defined RMA process keep your Level 1 line supplied and serviceable long after the first order.

Direct Factory Manufacturing and Quality Control

Our Ningbo plant runs five production lines with in-house control boards, firmware, and moulding. Incoming and in-process checks catch faults before a Level 1 charging cable ships.

Global Certifications & Compliance

Level 1 EV chargers are built to North American requirements — UL 2594 and UL 817-oriented construction, IP-rated control boxes, UL94-V0 housings and built-in CCID/GFCI leakage protection, with RoHS-compliant materials.

Working Principle

What is a level 1 EV charger
and how it works

A Level 1 EV charger is a portable AC charging cable that plugs into a standard 120 V household outlet — the same socket a lamp uses.
It stores no energy: it delivers AC power safely to the vehicle, where the on-board charger converts it to DC. Three steps do the work.

AC power flows from a standard outlet

Mains current enters the control box through a NEMA 5-15 or 5-20 plug, where ground-fault and voltage checks run before any power is released. A standard outlet supplies 12 A continuously, or 16 A on a dedicated 20 A circuit.

The cordset negotiates a safe session

A control pilot signal confirms the vehicle is connected and agrees the current limit, typically 6 to 16 A. The EVSE keeps monitoring temperature and voltage, and opens the contactor instantly if a fault appears.

The onboard charger converts and stores

Every EV carries its own rectifier. It turns the 120 V AC supply into DC and manages the battery — which is why a Level 1 charger adds power so slowly, at 1.4 to 1.75 kW, with nothing converted on the cable side.

Charging Levels

level 1 AC charger power, voltage and charging speed

Level 1 charging has two usable tiers, decided by the wall outlet rather than the cable.
Match the tier to your market’s socket standard and your buyers’ overnight distance needs.

Parameter NEMA 5-15 (standard) NEMA 5-20 (optional)
Supply 120 V AC, single phase 120 V AC, single phase
Max continuous current 12 A 16 A
Delivered power 1.44 kW 1.92 kW
Range added per hour ~3–5 miles ~4–6 miles
Overnight (8 h) range ~24–40 miles ~32–48 miles
Typical full charge 20–50 h 15–40 h
Branch circuit 15 A 20 A
Breaker sizing (125%) 15 A min. 20 A min.
Portable EVSE

Portable Level 1 EV Chargers for Flexible Charging

Our portable Level 1 EV chargers are built to travel — from a home garage to a hotel wall to the back of a service van.
Every unit ships with a wall-mount bracket, cable hook and storage bag, and can be private-labeled with your logo, packaging and firmware before it leaves the factory.

Plug-and-Play, No Installation

A standard 120 V plug means no electrician, no permit and no hardwiring. Hand a unit to an end user and it is charging in under a minute.

Compact, Lightweight Build

A slim control box and coiled cable keep the cord set glovebox-friendly and easy to stow between jobs.

Adjustable Current for Any Outlet

Step the draw to 8, 10, 13 or 16 A to match the circuit you actually find on site — safer on shared or older wiring.

Rated for the Road and the Outdoors

IP65 enclosures, UV-stable cable jackets and a −22 °F to 122 °F operating range keep charging reliable in heat, rain and frost.

Connectors & Standards

Level 1 EV Charger with Type 1 (J1772) Connector

Every DongYu Level 1 charger terminates in an SAE J1772 (Type 1) connector
— the standard AC interface for North American vehicles, engineered for daily plug cycles.

Universal North American fit

Works with every EV and PHEV carrying a J1772 inlet, including Ford, GM, Nissan, BMW, Hyundai, Kia, Rivian and Honda models.

Tesla compatibility

Tesla drivers charge through the standard J1772-to-NACS adapter shipped with most vehicles, so one cord set serves the whole car park.

Latch, seal and strain relief

A positive locking latch, silicone gasket and molded strain relief protect the pins and hold the connection firm in rain or snow.

NACS / J3400-ready roadmap

As J3400 becomes the North American standard, we can supply Level 1 cord sets and adapter bundles built to your connector strategy.

Deployment Scenarios

Applications of our level 1 electric vehicle charger

Our Level 1 EV chargers provide a practical and convenient charging solution for locations where vehicles are parked for extended periods. Using a standard AC outlet, Level 1 charging is ideal for residential properties, workplaces, hotels, and destination locations where drivers can charge their vehicles overnight or throughout the day.

Home Level 1 EV Charger

A Level 1 EV charger is a convenient choice for home charging, especially for drivers who have longer parking periods and do not require fast charging. It can connect to a standard household outlet, making installation simple and minimizing the need for additional electrical infrastructure.
For overnight charging, homeowners can simply plug in their EV when they arrive home and let it charge while the vehicle is parked. This makes Level 1 charging a cost-effective option for daily commuters, plug-in hybrid owners, and EV drivers with moderate daily mileage.

Destination Level 1 EV Charger

Level 1 EV charging is also well suited to destination locations where vehicles remain parked for several hours. Hotels, workplaces, apartments, vacation properties, parking facilities, and other commercial locations can use Level 1 chargers to provide convenient charging for guests, employees, residents, and visitors.
Because Level 1 charging can use existing electrical outlets, it can be a practical solution for businesses that want to expand EV charging access without immediately investing in high-power charging infrastructure.

FAQs

FAQs about level 1 EV chargers

What is a level 1 EV charger?

A Level 1 EV charger is a portable AC charging cable that plugs into a standard 120 V household outlet and delivers up to 1.75 kW. It is the cordset supplied with most electric vehicles.

A 12 A Level 1 charger adds roughly 6 to 8 km of range per hour; a 16 A unit adds about 8 to 11 km. Actual range depends on the vehicle’s efficiency, weather, and driving style.

A 60 kWh pack needs roughly 40 to 45 hours from empty at 1.4 kW, but most drivers top up rather than fully recharge. Ten overnight hours add about 60 to 80 km.

No. Level 1 charging works from an existing 15 A or 20 A outlet with no electrician visit. For heavy daily use, a dedicated circuit and outlet-side GFCI protection are recommended.

No. Low, steady current is the gentlest way to charge, keeping cell temperatures low and avoiding the thermal stress of fast charging. It is the least demanding option for long-term battery health.

Yes. Our OEM and ODM program covers cable length and jacket, the SAE J1772 connector, NEMA 5-15 or 5-20 wall plugs, current settings, enclosure colour, logo printing, and retail packaging.
